Our Story

MAATLA means strength in Sepedi. We chose that name because that is what families show every day when they care for a loved one at home with no training, no tools, and no one to call between clinic visits.

South Africa has millions of people managing chronic conditions and caring for elderly parents at home. The healthcare system sees them twice a year. The rest of the time, families carry it alone. We built MAATLA to put those families back inside the health system, using the one app they already have open every day: WhatsApp.

To give every household a simple, affordable health companion on WhatsApp. We help families keep their loved ones on treatment, learn the skills to handle emergencies, and reach real help in the moments that matter most.

Our Dream by 2030

By 2030 we want MAATLA supporting one million South African households, with a network of certified community responders in every major township. We want to grow across the continent through the markets where WhatsApp already connects families, reaching homes in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana. Our goal is simple. When a family faces a health crisis, help should never be more than one message away.
